CHNSpec SPF-600 / SPF-620 / SPF-660 Sunscreen Protection Factor Analyzer
SPF-600 / SPF-620 / SPF-660 Sunscreen Protection Factor Analyzers
The CHNSpec SPF-600, SPF-620, and SPF-660 are in-vitro instruments for sunscreen performance and spectral analysis. They measure SPF, UVAPF, UVA/UVB (UVR), critical wavelength, spectral transmittance, and absorbance. Choose a model by wavelength range, SPF range, supported methods, and the need for HEVIS analysis.
| Model | Wavelength range | SPF range | Key differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPF-600 | 280–400 nm | 1–1000 | For general SPF, UVAPF, and UVA/UVB sunscreen performance analysis. |
| SPF-620 | 280–450 nm | 1–1000 | Extends to 450 nm and adds methods including ISO 23675 and FDA 2012 & 2019. |
| SPF-660 | 280–500 nm | 1–2000 | Extends to 500 nm and adds HEVIS high-energy visible-light analysis. |
Model selection: Consider SPF-600 for general SPF/UVAPF analysis; SPF-620 when the 450 nm range and additional methods are required; or SPF-660 for 500 nm coverage, SPF up to 2000, or HEVIS analysis.
Full-spectrum scan in approximately one second
High-speed spectral acquisition and a detector array capture the full wavelength range in about one second per scan. This can reduce the time required for point-by-point scanning and help improve sunscreen formulation testing and comparison efficiency.
Integrated operation and real-time analysis
The system integrates a processor, embedded operating system, and touchscreen interface. It supports spectral acquisition, dark-current correction, and calculation of SPF and UVA/UVB results, allowing the basic test workflow to run without an external computer.
High dynamic range; SPF-660 measures up to SPF 2000
The manufacturer's high-dynamic-range photoelectric detection system is designed to handle signal changes from high- to low-transmittance samples. SPF-600 and SPF-620 cover SPF 1–1000; SPF-660 covers SPF 1–2000.
Broad wavelength coverage up to 500 nm
Available ranges depend on the model: 280–400 nm, 280–450 nm, or 280–500 nm. SPF-660 extends beyond the UVA and UVB bands to 500 nm for HEVIS high-energy visible-light analysis.
Multiple sunscreen test methods
SPF-600 supports the Cosmetics Safety Technical Specification, ISO 24443, COLIPA (2011), and Boots Star Rating (2011). SPF-620 and SPF-660 additionally support ISO 23675 and FDA 2012 & 2019 sunscreen labeling and efficacy methods.
Select test methods according to product-development objectives, target markets, and applicable requirements. In-vitro analysis should not be interpreted as replacing every human test or regulatory procedure.
