Color and Appearance Testing Equipment
Color and Appearance Testing Equipment | QC, R&D and Incoming Inspection
How to choose color and appearance testing equipment: first identify whether you need to check color difference, gloss, haze, whiteness or liquid color
Color and appearance testing equipment supports quality-control applications for plastics, coatings, inks, printing, textiles, food, cosmetics, packaging, glass, films and automotive interiors and exteriors. If you need to compare color differences, batches or standard colors, first consider colorimeters or spectrophotometers; for surface gloss, transparency, haze, liquid color, print density or whiteness, evaluate the relevant equipment based on the test objective. Confirm the selection based on sample material, surface condition, measurement standard, data output and quality-control workflow.
Colorimeters and spectrophotometers
For incoming inspection, production-line checks, comparison with standards or samples, and L*a*b* or ΔE evaluation, first consider colorimeters; for spectral data, SCI/SCE, multiple or micro-apertures, or standard-color management, also consider spectrophotometers.
gloss meter
For reflectance differences on glossy or matte surfaces, coatings, plastics, paint, paper or metal, evaluate by measurement angle and quality-control objective: use a gloss meter to measure GU.
Haze and transmittance meters
For films, glass, clear plastics, packaging or optical materials where haze, transmittance or transparent appearance must be evaluated, consider a haze meter or transmittance measurement equipment based on the sample conditions.
Liquid, print and whiteness measurements
For color measurement of transparent or translucent liquids, consider liquid colorimeters; for color management in printing, inks and paper, consider spectral densitometers; for whiteness of powders, paper or materials, consider whiteness meters.
- Results may be affected by the light source, viewing angle, surface gloss, transparency, haze, measurement aperture, SCI/SCE mode and customer acceptance conditions.
- When comparing equipment, evaluate suitable product directions based on sample type, test objective and quality-control workflow.
- To confirm demonstrations, stock, lead time or after-sales repair, provide the model and application requirements so Fulcrum Technology can check.
