How to Choose a Horizontal Colorimeter: Spot Size, Aperture and Sample Positioning
The 3nh NH310, NH300 and NR200 are portable horizontal colorimeters for comparing standard and sample colors using L*a*b* and ΔE, inspecting incoming materials and confirming product colors before shipment. Start selection with the measurement spot, sample surface and positioning method. A horizontal body does not mean the instrument can only be used on a desk.
The sample must fully cover the measurement aperture and sit stably against the measuring port. For batch or supplier comparisons, keep the aperture, illuminant, color difference formula and sampling conditions consistent. If spectral reflectance data or SCI/SCE switching is required, also compare a spectrophotometer.
NH310 | Dual Aperture 8 mm / 4 mm
Consider the NH310 when you need to switch between standard measurement areas and smaller spots. It provides dual apertures as well as camera and illumination positioning to help locate the measurement point. Confirm that the sample can cover the aperture and make stable contact.
NH300 | Single Aperture 8 mm
Consider the NH300 when the sample spot is large enough and the measurement area is consistent. It supports incoming inspection, batch comparison and finished-product color checks. Also verify the positioning method, color difference formula and data management needs.
NR200 | Entry-level Single Aperture 8 mm
The NR200 is an option for establishing a basic workflow to compare standards and samples. Confirm that its measurement conditions and functions meet internal QC or customer acceptance requirements before comparing budgets.
Provide the sample material, spot size, a photo of the surface and the inspection purpose. Include any customer-specified measurement conditions, color difference formula or tolerance. Fulcrum Technology can then help compare the NH310, NH300 and NR200.
