Haze Meter / Penetration Meter

3nh Haze and Transmittance Measurement Instruments

How to Choose a Haze Meter and Transmittance Meter

First confirm the test standard, measurement items and sample placement. For on-site spot checks, consider the YH40; for fixed quality control, compare the YH1100 and YH1200. For horizontal measurement, compare the YH1210, YH1610 and YH1810. If you also need transmitted color and color difference, compare the YH1600, YH1610 and YH1810. For clarity measurement, consider the YH1810.

Test standard Match the customer's ASTM/ISO conditions first
Measurement items Haze, transmittance, color or clarity
Sample conditions Size, thickness, flatness and mounting method

What is the difference between haze, transmittance and clarity?

Haze | How scattering creates a cloudy appearance

Indicates the proportion of transmitted light scattered at wide angles, and can be used to compare haze in transparent films, glass or plastics.

Total transmittance | How much light passes through

Indicates the proportion of total light passing through a sample. High transmittance does not necessarily mean low haze or clear visibility of fine details.

Clarity | How clearly details can be seen through a sample

Evaluates how small-angle scattering affects image sharpness. If you need to distinguish brightness from visual clarity, confirm whether a clarity function is required.

✓: The manufacturer lists this function; —: support is not listed in this table. Model types follow the product categories. Some open sample compartments allow different sample orientations; confirm the setup for your sample and fixture.

Do not rely only on check marks for ASTM/ISO standards

ISO 13468 mainly applies to total transmittance, while ISO 14782 applies to haze; ASTM D1003 covers haze and transmittance testing. When comparing supplier data or customer acceptance results, confirm the standard edition, test method, light source, measurement aperture and sample thickness. Do not directly combine results obtained under different conditions.
